HARTFORD, Conn. — The state's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol has been activated through Wednesday afternoon in response to a forecast of "very hot and humid temperatures" in Connecticut, according to the office of Gov. Ned Lamont Monday.
The protocol was activated at 2 p.m. Monday and is effective until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the governor's office said. It was put in place to ensure the state's "most vulnerable populations" are protected from the heat and activates a system for state agencies, municipalities, and other groups to work with United Way 2-1-1 to ensure information regarding cooling centers is available.
More information on the protocol can be found here. It was previously activated this year during a heat wave that began on June 18.
Temperatures are predicted to rise into the 90s in the daytime during this period, with the heat index between 95 to 100 degrees. Overnight temperatures will fall into the 70s with dewpoints also in the 70s, according to the governor's office.
“It’s been pretty warm over the last several days and it’s about to get warmer, particularly over the next several evenings,” Lamont said. “Anyone who is vulnerable to heat and humidity is advised to take precautions. Cooling centers are open throughout Connecticut and can be located by calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211ct.org.”
