HARTFORD, Conn. — One person has died after a crash involving a tractor-trailer that closed down Interstate 91 North near Exit 29a in Hartford through the morning commute.
A tractor-trailer was traveling on I-91 northbound, just south of the Exit 29a off-ramp in the right center lane of five. A Nissan Rogue was traveling in the same lane, directly in front of the truck.
The Nissan then slowed down, causing the truck to rear-end the car. Both vehicles came to a stop in the right lane, and the Nissan ended up behind the truck.
Troopers were called to the scene around 2:40 a.m.
The Nissan driver was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries, state police said. The right-back passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger has been identified as Paula Garcia, 53, of Easthampton, Mass.
The area was closed throughout Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information or dash cam footage regarding the crash is asked to call Trooper Michael Dean at 860-534-1098 or send an email to michael.dean@ct.gov.
