HARTFORD, Conn. — Hartford police arrested and charged a woman in connection to a fatal crash back in July.
The crash killed 31-year-old David Hicks of East Hartford, who was riding on a dirt bike, police said. The crash happened July 19 just before 8:30 p.m. at Windsor Street and Loomis Street.
Officers in the area were called to the scene and found Hicks unresponsive on the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hartford investigators then learned that two dirt bikes had been traveling south on Windsor Street when a Honda Cross Tour, driven by 22-year-old Avani Butler, turned in front of them. Butler, a Hartford resident, then struck the bike that Hicks was riding on, according to police.
Cameras in the area managed to capture images of the Honda as it drove off from the scene before police arrived. The Honda was then found abandoned in the city's south end by detectives.
Investigators also learned that Hicks' bike was unregistered and listed as stolen.
After months of investigating, Hartford investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Butler.
On Thursday, Butler was taken into custody and charged with evading responsibility, resulting in death, improper turning, and tempering with physical evidence. She was held on a $450,000 bond.
