HARTFORD, Conn. — Hartford city officials are mourning the passing of its Town and City Clerk after he was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Colchester last month.
Noel McGregor, 74, was outside his vehicle that was parked on the right shoulder of Route 2 West near Exit 16 when a vehicle went onto the shoulder and hit McGregor before driving away, according to Connecticut State Police's crash report from the Oct. 22 incident.
Life Star flew McGregor to Hartford Hospital with life-threatening injuries, state police said. The Hartford Mayor's office announced Friday that McGregor died from his injuries.
"The City of Hartford has suffered a great loss, and Noel's unwavering dedication to Hartford and its residents will carry on in the heart and soul of the Town and City Clerk's office. Together, we express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones, and will honor his memory in spirit of public service," said Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and Council President Shirley Surgeon.
A passenger in McGregor's vehicle was not injured, state police said.
The evading vehicle is a dark blue Jeep Cherokee that should have damage to the right side view mirror and right door handle, state police said. State police are still looking for the vehicle and driver, and anyone with information is asked to call state police Trooper Gregory DeCarli at 860-465-5400.
