HARTFORD, Conn. — A daycare was among the neighboring buildings evacuated on Tuesday morning as firefighters investigated a report of a gas leak at a Hartford home.
Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) detected "high readings" at a home on the 200 block of Laurel Street and called the Hartford Fire Department around 8:30 a.m. to report a gas leak, according to fire officials.
The two-and-a-half-story multi-family home was not occupied and was under renovation at the time of the gas leak, fire officials said.
The property, the surrounding apartment buildings and a day care were evacuated.
CT Transit brought buses to temporarily shelter the 50 or so people evacuated. They have since been cleared to return to their respective buildings.
CNG isolated the issue and stopped the leak, bringing the scene under control, fire officials said.
