HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford gang member connected to the 2020 Majestic Lounge shooting was sentenced for a gun offense on Thursday in Hartford, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Carl “M.O.B.” Jones, 43, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release.
Prosecutors say that during the early morning hours on Feb. 16, 2020, Jones was involved in a gang-related shooting inside the Majestic Lounge on Hartford’s Franklin Avenue. The release says that Jones, a member of Los Solidos, pursued, shot and wounded gang member Joshua Saez and accidentally wounded a second victim.
According to prosecutors, Saez first shot gang member Marquis Treadwell, Treadwell’s girlfriend, and an unintentional third victim at the Majestic Lounge. Treadwell later died from the shooting.
Jones then reportedly fired a .40 caliber Glock semiautomatic handgun, which he got from Treadwell after the first shooting by Saez. Prosecutors say Jones fled the scene with the weapon, but Hartford police later retrieved it in September 2021 from a vehicle on Lawrence Street during an unrelated drug trafficking violation.
The release says Jones was previously convicted for felony narcotics, assault, larceny and failure to appear offenses and that it is federally illegal for someone who has been convicted of a felony offense to have a gun or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Jones has been detained in federal custody since June 9, 2022, according to prosecutors, who said that on Aug. 23, 2023, a jury found him guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.
Meanwhile, Saez is serving a state sentence for the murder of Treadwell and the assault of Treadwell’s girlfriend, the release says.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Northern Connecticut Gang Task Force and the Hartford Police Department. The task force consists of FBI members; police from the Hartford, East Hartford, New Britain and West Hartford; Connecticut State Police and members of the state’s Department of Correction.
