Hartford police announce new online reporting system for non-emergencies

Non-emergency incidents include "lost property, theft or car break-ins with no suspects, identity theft or fraud and vandalism or property damage," police said.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford Police Department launched a new online system Sunday for residents to report non-emergency incidents.

Residents can use the system to report incidents including "lost property, theft or car break-ins with no suspects, identity theft or fraud and vandalism or property damage," police said.

Anyone looking to file a report can do so via this website or the Hartford police website here. Police said residents can upload descriptions, photos and any other details for officers to review.

According to police, the new system is designed to be accessible for residents so that they don't have to visit the police station or wait for an officer's reply.

The system will also allow officers to designate more resources to urgent calls and cut down on administrative costs, ensuring faster response times for critical situations and faster processing and resolutions for non-emergency incidents, police said.

“This is a significant step my administration has taken towards building a more transparent and connected Hartford Police Department,” Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said. “By offering this new online reporting tool, we’re not only increasing accessibility for residents, but we’re also ensuring that our officers can focus their attention where it’s needed most —responding to critical situations quickly and effectively.”

Police added that the new tool promotes transparency by documenting every report to ensure that "no incident is overlooked" and that all concerns are "reviewed and addressed."

Interim Chief Kenny Howell noted that the system is "a game changer for both the community and the department."

“It allows us to better allocate our resources while ensuring that every report, no matter how small, is handled efficiently. We are committed to improving our service and building trust with the community, and this online reporting tool is an important step in that direction," Howell said.
