HARTFORD, Conn. — Harford Public Library announced on Thursday that it will reopen the Downtown Library to patrons on Nov. 20.
A brief ribbon cutting ceremony and speaking program will be held at the building at 500 Main St. at 11 a.m. that morning featuring state Rep. Matt Ritter (D-1st District), Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam and HPL President & CEO Bridget E. Quinn, who will cut the ribbon.
Immediately after the ceremony, the building’s doors will open to the public.
“We are thrilled to be able to open our Main Street doors and welcome our community back,” Quinn said. “We know Hartford has missed the Downtown Library, and while it’s been a long wait, we think you will be excited to see the changes we’ve made – with even more to come.”
HPL says that beginning Nov. 20, patrons can access a large section of the first floor, including collections, computers, passports and offerings from The American Place. Additionally, the first-floor classrooms and Center for Contemporary Culture have been in use since 2023 and will continue to be accessible.
According to HPL, more work will be ongoing to complete the renovation project.
“For 250 years, the Hartford Public Library has been a pillar of our community, meeting the changing needs of our city,” Arulampalam said. “Today’s announcement is a major milestone, and we’re counting down the days until the Downtown Library is back open for residents.”
Arulampalam added that, “The library will continue to stand as a vital center for learning, innovation and community services for residents in every corner of Hartford.”
HPL says that starting on Nov. 20, the Downtown Library can be visited Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Library officials say they can’t wait to see you there!
