The façade of the Frontier Communications building in Hartford will soon get a new look.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The façade of the Frontier Communications building located at 111 Trumbull St. in downtown Hartford is preparing for a dynamic new look.

On Aug. 1, RiseUp for Arts, which empowers communities throughout Connecticut to imagine new possibilities through public art and education, announced its new initiative, “Magic Murals,” which will bring artwork to the exterior of the Frontier building.

The project is made possible through the support of Frontier, which serves as the lead sponsor. Frontier’s building on Trumbull Street is integral to the company’s functions and operations.

“There’s more to our downtown Hartford building than meets the eye. The building is at the heart of our work to deliver the fast, reliable connectivity that Hartford needs to compete and lead in the digital economy,” Frontier Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer Mark Nielsen said in the release.

Nielsen said Frontier is committed to helping Hartford thrive.

“That is why we are thrilled to partner with RiseUp on a project that will use technology to enrich the community,” Nielsen added.

The “Magic Murals” project will attempt to revitalize Hartford’s urban space, display artistic talent, strengthen community engagement, create partnerships and improve the local economy, the release said. It will also offer the city a chance to distinguish itself from the region’s other metropolitan areas by using innovative technology to transform a large building into an art project.

The creative team consists of Ryan Glista, an Emmy Award winning digital creator, and art curator Eric Ben-kiki.

“Frontier is the ideal lead sponsor for this groundbreaking digital arts project, which is all about creating community connections and inspiring the future of Hartford,” RiseUp Executive Director Matt Conway said in the release. “We are grateful for their support in bringing this initiative to life.”

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said in the release that the city has one of the best arts landscapes for a mid-sized city in the country. He believes the digital mural will bring a “vibrant and unique” addition to Hartford’s landscape by using cutting-edge technology.

“Innovative partnerships that bring together local employers and nonprofits strengthen our community, and this collaboration between Frontier Communications and RiseUp for Arts serves our residents in that spirit,” Arulampalam said in the release.

According to RiseUp for Arts, the projection mapping installation will run from Nov. 4-9 and feature interactive elements and animated visual narratives. There will be multiple featured shows throughout the week.
