HARTFORD, Conn. — A man was sentenced to life in prison for the 2016 fatal shootings of two people in Hartford, the state's Division of Criminal Justice said Monday.
Brandon Letman, 31, was sentenced after being found guilty by a jury in Hartford Superior Court on May 9 of murder on two counts, murder with special circumstances (multiple victims), criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, tampering with a witness on two counts and conspiracy to commit tampering with a witness.
Letman also received a sentence of 10 years in prison to run consecutively with the life sentencing for the tampering with a witness charges, the DCJ said.
Citing evidence from the trial, the DCJ said that Hartford police were called to Enfield Street in Hartford on the evening of June 21, 2016, and found two gunshot victims outside identified as Ashley Spence, 21, and Cameron Mounds Jr., 19. Both died of their injuries.
In 2019, Letman was charged in connection to the shooting. The investigation was led by the Cold Case Unit of the Office of the Chief State's Attorney, the Hartford State's Attorney's Office, the Hartford Police Department and the Connecticut Department of Correction, the DCJ said.
According to the DCJ, investigators had followed up with multiple witnesses with information about the shootings, leading to the charges.
