List of road closures, activities ahead of Eversource Hartford Marathon on Saturday

An event spokesperson said that the HMF is ready to host more than 9,300 runners and walkers, with tens of thousands of spectators expected.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Ahead of the Eversource Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon on Saturday, the Hartford Marathon Foundation, or HMF, shared a planned list of road closures, along with activities happening throughout the week.

An event spokesperson said the event is ready to host more than 9,300 runners and walkers, with tens of thousands of spectators expected. 

Registration for the 26.2-mile distance and team relay closed last week at full capacity, the spokesperson said. Capacity updates for the half marathon and 5K can be found on the Hartford Marathon website here.

The marathon, half marathon, and relay will start in front of the Capitol at 8 a.m. with wheelchair racers starting at 7:55 a.m. The 5K race will start on Capitol Avenue between Clinton and West Streets at 8:01 a.m., and the HMF FitKids races will start on the east side of Bushnell Park at 9:30 a.m.

Road closures in Hartford ahead of Saturday:

  • Trinity Street between Ford Street and Elm Street: close 8 a.m. Oct. 14
  • Elm Street between Trinity Street and Clinton Street: close 9 a.m. Oct. 18
  • Trinity Street between Elm Street and Capitol Avenue: close 9 a.m. Oct. 18
  • Elm Street between Clinton Street and Pulaski Circle: close 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18
  • Clinton Street: close 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18
  • West Street: close 5:30 p.m. Oct. 18
  • Capitol Avenue between Oak Street and Hudson Street: close 4 a.m. Oct. 19
  • Lafayette Street between Capitol and Russ Street: close 4 a.m. Oct. 19
  • Washington Street between Buckingham and Capitol Avenue: close 4 a.m. Oct. 19

Race week activities:

  • Oct. 17, 4-7 p.m.: Eversource Hartford Marathon Packet Pickup & Expo, XL Center in Hartford
  • Oct. 17, 5-8 p.m.: Party on Pratt, pre-race activities with live music, games, and restaurant specials, Pratt Street in Hartford
  • Oct. 18, noon-7 p.m.: Eversource Hartford Marathon Packet Pickup & Expo, XL Center in Hartford (bib pickup extended until 9:00 PM) (last opportunity to register for open races)
  • Oct. 18, 5-6 p.m.: Q&A with American marathon record holder Emily Sisson, Eversource Hartford Marathon Packet Pickup & Expo, XL Center in Hartford
  • Oct. 19: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eversource Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, Team 26.2 Relay post-race party, Bushnell Park, Hartford

Race day closures on Saturday:

  • Highway exit closures (all exit ramps will close at 7:30 a.m. until time specified)
    • I-84 eastbound:
      • Exit 48B: Capitol Avenue closed until 10 a.m.
      • Exit 48A: Asylum Street closed until 11 a.m.
    • I-84 westbound:
      • Exit 54: Founders Bridge closed until 2 p.m.
      • Exit 50: Main Street closed until 11 a.m.
    • I-91 southbound:
      • Exit 32B: Trumbull Street closed until 11 a.m.
      • Exit 31: State Street closed until 11 a.m.
    • I-91 northbound:
      • Exit 32B: Trumbull Street closed until 11 a.m.
    • Route 2 westbound:
      • Exit 2W: Downtown Hartford closed until 2 p.m.
      • Exit 3: Pitkin Street closed until 2 p.m.
    • Colin Whitehead Highway inbound will be closed at Columbus Boulevard until 2 p.m.
    • Route 2 westbound, exit 4 and Route 15 southbound, exit 90 will be RIGHT TURN ONLY
      • East River Drive will be coned by East Hartford PD to allow right turns only
