HARTFORD, Conn. — As the Hartford Yard Goats prepared for opening day at Dunkin’ Park in Downtown Hartford, another team was at work since last season ended – the Goats' grounds crew.
The Yard Goat’s Matt Piersanti, who at just 24 years old is the youngest field operations manager in the Eastern League said, “our opening day I always say starts on the last day of last season.”
While Piersanti and his team prepared the field for the coming games, Ryan Sadler, the Yard Goats merchandise manager is in gear at the team store.
Sadler, who is in her third year with the team, noted that the Yard Goats might be a minor league team but they are major players in the so called “team swag world”.
"We do have a lot of new different products we have about 20 new hats that we bring in -- absolutely there’s a ton of new swag," Sadler said.
Before the first pitch, Tim Restall, the Hartford Yard Goats team president said opening day always has special meaning to him, including “the smiles, the kids, the old friends, the familiar faces all walking in and experiencing the ballpark around them and just cheering on the Goats.”
The home opener marks the Yard Goats' first game in their six-game series with the Bowie Baysox. For more information on the 2024 Hartford Yard Goats season, click here.
