HARTFORD, Conn. — A woman was arrested after using state funds designed for a child care center for personal use, according to the Hartford Police Department Monday.
A daycare provider at Kids Creative Learning Center in Hartford, identified as Carmen Santiago, 53, of Windsor, is facing a charge of larceny in the first degree, police said.
The Fraud Division of Hartford Police Major Crimes began investigating a misuse of funds by a daycare provider, later identified as Santiago, in January, according to police.
The grant funds were provided to Santiago by the state of Connecticut for the child daycare center, police said.
Through multiple search warrants, investigators found that she made "several high dollar purchases" using the funding for personal use, police said, noting that full accounting of the misused funds determined probable cause for her arrest.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for Santiago on July 5, who was arrested on July 8 after turning herself into the Hartford Police Department.
