MANCHESTER, Conn — A California woman is facing charges after driving the wrong way on Interstate 384 in Manchester, according to state police.
State police got several calls just before 3 a.m. Saturday, reporting a wrong-way driver traveling west on I-384 East in Manchester. More reports came in that the same vehicle was on fire in the left lane near Exit 1, state police said.
Troopers responding to the scene found the driver outside the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames.
State police spoke with the driver, identified as Peyton Nyemaster, 28, of Pala, Calif., and noticed she was exhibiting signs of impairment. Nyemaster did not report any injuries to state police, troopers said.
No other vehicles were involved, state police said.
She was not cooperative with troopers and was later taken into custody, state police said. While in custody at Troop H in Hartford, she agreed to take field sobriety tests, which she did not pass, state police said.
Nyemaster was charged with disorderly conduct, operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on a highway, and reckless driving.
She is being held on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
