NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Sixty students were displaced from their dorms after a fire at a Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) residence hall Monday night, according to the university.

Students were evacuated from the building after a fire that started shortly after 6 p.m. at the F. Don James Hall, which the university said is one of the oldest on campus.

No one was hurt, and students who were residing in the hall were moved to Memorial Hall and the Student Center. University administrators are working with the state and local fire marshal's office to relocate students to surrounding hotels, the city's mayor's office said.

The New Britain Fire Department arrived minutes after the fire was reported and placed it under control at 6:19 p.m. The university said that the sprinkler system helped to keep it under control.

The state's fire marshal is investigating the cause and a clean up crew is on scene addressing smoke, fire and water damage, according to officials.

"The students did exactly what they should in a situation like this and we are working on making them comfortable in a new space," CCSU President Zulma Toro said.
