NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Central Connecticut State University officials are investigating a possible food poisoning at one of its campus dining facilities.
Officials said the university's Environmental Health & Safety Department is working with the New Britain Department of Public Health and food service provider Sodexo to investigate potential food poisoning at The Hilltop Café.
As of Thursday, the city's health department has approved all food service establishments to operate at Central. All campus dining halls can be on their regular schedule.
No unique food item has been pinpointed as the source. The health department will expand its survey to determine the root cause. There is a group of symptomatic patients who are now in the process of being contacted and tested.
Those results are expected next week, according to officials.
Several protocols, including sanitizing high touch points like doorknobs and bathroom sinks, will be implemented out of an abundance of caution while health experts continue to investigate.
School officials said students can get services for any symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and stomach upset at the Student Wellness Center. Students can be seen by university health services professionals at no charge for office visits by calling the general line at (860) 832-1925, emailing sws@ccsu.edu or calling the appointment line at (860) 832-1926.
There are also some CDC resources on the health topic that may help affected students.
