NEWINGTON, Conn. — The Newington Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Saturday evening that left multiple firefighters with minor injuries.
Officials from the Newington Fire Department said crews responded to a call around 3:40 p.m. about a structure fire on Audubon Avenue.
According to the fire department, a large amount of the fire came from a detached garage in the back of the house that extended to the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which also spread to multiple vehicles and neighboring structures.
Four firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, but have since been treated and released. All occupants of the home made it out safely.
A Newington police dispatcher said there may have been propane tanks in the garage that exploded.
The Newington Fire Marshal's Office and State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
