NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — A city-wide holiday home decorating contest will continue its tradition this holiday season.
The eighth annual New Britain Mayor's Merry and Bright Holiday House Decorating Contest was announced Wednesday, with many awards, prizes and holiday cheer to share this holiday season.
“This event is always one of my favorites,” said Mayor Erin Stewart. She added that this contest “is something we all look forward to each year as we get into the Christmas and holiday spirit."
All city residents are invited to participate in the annual contest. Awards will be given for these four categories:
- Classic Holiday
- Best Holiday Spirit
- Most Creative
- The "Rita Giancola Award" - Named after New Britain resident and philanthropist famous for creating "The Christmas House," which brought visitors to visit her home lights display for over 40 years.
"Break out the holiday gear, untangle those light strands, pull out your inflatables and start decorating!" Stewart said.
Residents can register for the contest at nbparksnrec.org; the deadline to register is Friday, Dec. 15. The contest begins on Monday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. The mayor and her "special elves" will travel around the city on Dec. 20 to visit the finalists. Winners will be announced on Dec. 21.
