NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — A man was arrested in Pennsylvania on a murder charge after New Britain police found a woman dead Friday, officials said.
New Britain Deputy Police Chief Adam Rembisz said an officer was in the area of Fairview Street around 4:10 p.m. and was made aware of a group seeking help from police. The officer learned that a family was in the area to check on a relative when they found her unresponsive inside of an apartment.
The relative, identified as 27-year-old Moenisha Collins, was found dead by police with multiple gunshot wounds, Rembisz said.
The New Britain Common Council issued a statement that said in part, "Moenisha’s untimely death is a stark reminder of the urgent need to address and prevent domestic violence. As a community, we come together to support those affected and work collectively towards preventing such heartbreaking incidents from occurring in the future."
Additional police officers responded to assist in the investigation, along with the New Britain State's Attorney's office and Connecticut State Police.
A male suspect, identified as 46-year-old Vincent Blair of Hartford, was arrested after fleeing to Pennsylvania, Rembisz said. Blair was charged with murder on a New Britain warrant and is currently awaiting extradition to Connecticut.
