WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — A 14-year-old was identified in the Wethersfield crash after a stolen car crashed into a home, said police.
Police identified Novelle Nesmith of Hartford as the victim in the crash on Sunday afternoon. Nesmith was pronounced dead at a local hospital at around 2:27 p.m. following the crash.
The accident occurred in the area of Church Street. When police arrived at the scene, they found two people trapped in the car and another person had run away, eventually returning to the scene, said police.
According to police, further investigation revealed that the car was stolen out of Hartford and was occupied by three juveniles who were driving "erratically" east on Church Street toward Garden Street before striking another car traveling westbound, veering off the roadway, crashing into a tree and then a house.
Two of the occupants were trapped in the car and had to be freed by first responders.
The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Team is assuming the investigation.
