PLAINVILLE, Conn. — One homeowner in Plainville is collecting donations during Halloween night.
When trick or treaters walk up to Brianne DeVoy’s home on 6 Pincecrest Drive in Plainville, they’ll first have to walk past creepy decorations.
“We are huge fans of Halloween. We love anything spooky. It's just something that my entire household gets into it,” DeVoy said.
When she was setting everything up, a thoughtful idea came to mind.
“Because we put so many animatronics up, it draws a lot of people to come in. So, I put some signs out. And I'm like, if we're going to have a bunch of people come through and look at the yard, let's see if we can get enough people together to do a food donation to help people that are struggling right now,” DeVoy said.
But DeVoy says she cannot take all the credit for this plan.
“My mother is the one who mentioned, you know, doing something like a food donation, a food drive, or something to help benefit the town. And I just kind of went with it,” DeVoy said.
On Halloween, she’ll hand out candy. And in return, she's asking people to give food donations for people and pets in the community.
“We're actually gonna set up in the driveway. I'm gonna have two big boxes set up, one for animal food donations, one for human food donations,” DeVoy said.
This is DeVoy’s first year doing something like this and she is setting a goal of 50 donations, all of which will go to the Plainville Food Pantry.
“I know that they're having a shortage, and this time of year, you know they're looking for help, especially with Thanksgiving and stuff like that. Specifically, they did ask for sugar cereals for kids and snacks for kids,” DeVoy said.
DeVoy stresses the importance of giving back to those who need it most.
“It's just trying to give back to the community a little bit and help our neighbors; help our neighbors out,” DeVoy said.
If you visit DeVoy’s home on Halloween, there will be music, fog lights and a laser show.
She says the first 50 people to donate will receive a bag of treats, in addition to the candy you’ll receive when you say “trick or treat.”
DeVoy says she will drop off the donations on Nov. 4, but you can still continue to drop off canned goods after that day as well.
