Public hearing held in Burlington on Johnnycake Mountain Park space proposal

The board voted in favor of approving the proposal, which will now move to the Board of Selectman.

BURLINGTON, Conn. — In Burlington Thursday evening, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing about Johnnycake Mountain Park and what the future holds for the space.

An uptick in traffic, noise, safety of the children in the town and quality of life for the neighborhood were just some of the concerns of Burlington residents, which they said go against town regulations.

The proposed plan at Johnnycake Mountain Park includes a gravel parking lot for 150 cars, stadium-style seating for 200 people, a four-foot chain link fence around the fields and at the center of it all, a six and two-tenths-acre multi-purpose field.

The committee voted on whether the application followed the zoning rules set forth by the commission.

Unanimously, the board voted on at least the need for screening to help with the noise for residents that live in that neighborhood. The engineer proposed six-foot-tall trees which would line across the field.

The committee voted to hold the final vote without an official revised proposal in place. It passed 4-3. The board then voted 5-2 in favor of approving the proposal. It will now move to the Board of Selectman.
