South Windsor dog found tied to a tree finds new home

Obie, formerly called Kobe, was officially adopted over two months after he was found abandoned in South Windsor.

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — After 60 days at a shelter, a dog found tied to a tree in South Windsor finally has a new home.

Obie was found on April 22 tied to a tree at the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary after a person walking by spotted him. According to officials, Obie's collar was strapped to the dog and a tree branch.

The Tyle Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) said that the dog's collar had the name "Kobe" or "Kade" on it at the time. There were no home surveillance cameras in the area where the dog was left.

A little over three weeks later, police arrested 26-year-old Janiya Bradford in connection with abandoning the dog. She was charged with cruelty to animals and tethering a dog to a stationary object. Her case is awaiting a plea, and she's expected to be in court on July 12.

Two days after Bradford's arrest, TRACS announced on their Facebook page that Obie (his name changed from Kobe) was finally up for adoption.

TRACS said that Obie, who was determined to be five years old, loved being loved and deserved "to be the focus of attention." TRACS said that Obie was not fond of men and that they made him nervous. He also required a sensitive skin and stomach diet.

Obie also would need leash training and time to decompress from his anxiety in the kennel.

Finally, 60 days after Obie was found, TRACS announced over the weekend that he had found his new forever home.

TRACS said that they took "extra time" to ensure that his new home would be the best fit for him and that his new family would meet all the criteria.

"We can not afford to place a dog or cat into a home where they may be in harm's way or potentially harm an existing animal," TRACS said in their post.

TRACS continued to thank everyone for sharing Obie's story and that they look forward to many "pupdate" photos with his new brother, Lovebug.
