SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — A Rhode Island man was arrested for driving through a construction zone on Interstate 84 in Southington while under the influence, according to Connecticut state police.
State police said they were assisting with traffic and lane closures at a construction project on I-84 West near Exit 30 around midnight Monday when troopers saw a Honda Pilot traveling in the closed lanes.
The Honda was seen driving around the trucks and state police cruiser that were blocking off the closed lanes, state police said. There was construction happening in the right and center lanes as this was happening, state police said.
After state police used their sirens, the Honda eventually came to a stop near where crews were working. State police said the driver, identified as Andrew Bravo, 25, of Providence, R.I., appeared to be impaired and when troopers asked, Bravo told them he had alcohol before driving.
Bravo did not pass his field sobriety tests and was arrested at the scene, state police said.
Bravo was charged with DUI in a construction zone, reckless driving in a construction zone and failure to obey an officer's signal. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 12.
