SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — A Waterbury man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a Southington gas station in the town's Marian neighborhood on Wednesday, according to a release from the Southington Police Department.
Southington police responded to the incident at the Go Happy Gas Station at 2210 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike on Wednesday and were able to catch who they believe is the suspect.
Jeremy Edmond, 33, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree threatening, fourth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.
According to Southington Police Capt. Nathan Boislard, a 911 caller said a man entered the gas station displaying a handgun and demanding money. The suspect was wearing a face covering; he walked behind the counter and removed cash from the register himself, Boislard said.
Southington police report that the department responded to two similar gas station robberies in the past week, all occurring on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike with a similar description of the suspect. Police created a description of the suspect’s vehicle following the first two incidents.
Officers responding to the Go Happy Gas Station observed a vehicle matching the description entering the on-ramp to Interstate 84. Southington police say officers followed the vehicle into Waterbury and took the suspect, who was later identified as Edmond, into custody without incident.
According to Southington police, a black-colored plastic facsimile handgun, matching the one described by the 911 caller, was seen on the floorboard of the driver’s side of the vehicle. Also visible was a large amount of loose cash in various denominations.
Edmond was booked for the previously listed charges in relation to the robbery at the Go Happy Gas Station and was held on a $1,000,000 surety bond, Southington police say. He appeared at the New Britain Superior Court on Thursday.
