SUFFIELD, Conn. — It hasn't run since 2012.
It doesn't have an exhaust.
It rides really stiff.
It can carry, at most, three people.
If all these things don't bother you, the town of Suffield has something you might be interested in, a 1985 Chevrolet M1010 pickup that used to be an ambulance. And it's up for auction on the website Municibid.com. As of Tuesday evening, the bidding had reached $4,400.
The truck was originally owned by the military. It started out as an ambulance, but at some point, the box was replaced with a standard pickup bed. The listing lists the following equipment: GM (Detroit Diesel) 379 cu in. (6.2L) J-series non-emissions diesel V-8 engine, 155hp@3600rpm, Transmission is a GM TH400 (Turbo Hydramatic 400) automatic transmission, Manual NP208 transfer case, 200 amp alternator, Dana 60 front and 10.5 in Corporate 14 Bolt rear diff, 200 amp / 24 Volt power system.
The listing says it "currently has 27,462 miles. We stopped using the vehicle when the exhaust broke and we purchased a newer truck. The vehicle has not been started in at least 10 years and we do not have 24-volt jumper boxes so it will require new batteries."
Prices for similar, but restored Chevrolet pickups can run easily above $30,000.
Bidding ends Friday, November 24, 2023, 11:15 a.m. EST.
