WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — The community will gather on Sunday and Monday to remember fallen Wethersfield Firefighter Robert Sharkevich, Sr., who died in a UTV crash while battling the Hawthorne Fire on Tuesday.
Many people are expected to attend the services for Sharkevich, 66, who was a career firefighter in Hartford before becoming a volunteer firefighter in Wethersfield. He also worked for Wethersfield Public Schools as a physical services carpenter.

According to the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, visitation hours for Sharkevich are from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, located in Wethersfield at 34 Beaver Road.
The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, located at 140 Farmington Avenue.
Wethersfield Public Schools will be closed on Monday, allowing the students and staff to attend Sharkevich’s funeral.
The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection says that the Wethersfield Police Department announced traffic impacts for both Sunday and Monday.
Around 1 p.m. on Sunday, the east side northbound traffic lane of the Silas Deane Highway will close from Wells Road to the north side of Beaver Road during the calling hours. Police expect there will be significant traffic delays until about 8 p.m.
The public can park in Wethersfield at Corpus Christi School at 581 Silas Deane Highway, Bank of America at 600 Silas Deane Highway or the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 657 Silas Deane Highway.
On Monday, northbound and southbound traffic on the Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield will close at 10 a.m. from the Hartford city line to Wells Road, making room for the funeral procession. The closure should last approximately one hour.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, several roads will close for the return of the funeral procession, including Ridge Road from the Hartford city line to Prospect Street, Prospect Street at Ridge Road, Griswold Road at Prospect Street, Griswold Road at Maple Street and Maple Street at Gilbert Avenue in Rocky Hill. Wethersfield police expect the roads to be impacted until about 2 p.m.
Sharkevich will be buried in Rocky Hill at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
