WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — Bradley International Airport has expanded its offerings once more, as Avelo Airlines celebrates the start of service from the airport in Windsor Locks to Cancun, Mexico.

Cancun is the airline’s second international destination available to passengers leaving Bradley International Airport, Avelo reported Wednesday. The first was announced last Saturday with a service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Avelo said that affordable, one-way fares to Cancun start at just $99.

Avelo will operate the route to Cancun twice per week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It will utilize Boeing Next-Generation 737 airplanes. Travelers can book flights here.

So far in November, the airline has launched six new routes from the Windsor Locks airport. These include North Carolina’s Charlotte/Concord and Wilmington as well as Florida’s Daytona Beach and Orlando/Lakeland. Travelers can also fly Avelo from Connecticut to Houston. Montego Bay is the sixth destination.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said in a release that adding service to international destinations is a significant milestone.

“Our purpose is to inspire travel, and the addition of international service to our expansive route network offers our customers even more choices,” Levy said. “As the only current airline offering nonstop service to Mexico from Connecticut, we are leading the way in making it convenient and affordable for our customers to enjoy Cancun and the nearby vacation destinations of Tulum and Cozumel.”

Gov. Ned Lamont weighed in as well, praising the airline’s evolution and Bradley International Airport’s ability to facilitate new routes.

“The growth of Avelo Airlines and the addition of new routes at Bradley is only helping to increase the reputation of our state’s flagship airport as one of the best and most convenient airports in the northeast,” Lamont said.
