WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — A caregiver accused of identity theft allegedly racked up $9,100 on a credit card account that was opened using a 94-year-old's personal information, police said.
Windsor Locks police identified the in-home caregiver as Michelle Labowski, of Granby, who is facing a charge of identity theft in the first degree.
According to police, they received a complaint on April 5 about the identity theft. Investigators learned that Labowski opened a Chase Amazon Prime Visa credit card using the victim's "personal identifying information," police said.
Police say that $9,100 in good and services were charged to the victim's account.
Detectives eventually obtained an arrest warrant for Labowski after a months-long investigation. She turned herself into police on Monday.
Labowski was later released after posting a bond of $25,000. She is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Nov. 20.
