HARTFORD, Conn. — A Windsor woman pleaded guilty in Hartford court on Monday to providing drugs to an inmate at a federal prison in Allenwood, Pa., according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Prosecutors said that on Nov. 12, 2022, Ellis smuggled a small balloon containing around 20 packaged strips of Suboxone Sublingual Film, a Schedule III controlled substance and narcotic, into the Allenwood maximum-security U.S. Penitentiary. She provided the balloon to Tyshawn McDade, who was serving a sentence there; prosecutors said he swallowed the balloon.

A corrections officer witnessed the exchange and ended the visit immediately, prosecutors said, noting that everything was caught on camera.

On Sept. 28, 2023, a federal grand jury in Williamsport, Pa. returned an indictment charging McDade and Ellis with the offense, according to prosecutors.

The case against Ellis was later transferred from the Middle District of Pennsylvania to the District of Connecticut for further prosecution. Ellis’ sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 3.

If convicted, prosecutors said Ellis faces up to 20 years of imprisonment. She is currently released on a $10,000 bond pending sentencing.
