WATERBURY, Conn — A man was found guilty in the December 2020 fatal stabbing of a UPS driver in Watertown Thursday, according to the state's Division of Criminal Justice.
Elijah Bertrand, 22, of Bristol, was found guilty of the crime of murder by a jury in Waterbury Superior Court.
On Dec. 22, 2020, UPS delivery driver Nathan Burk, 22, of Waterbury, was fatally stabbed by Bertrand while he was returning a truck to a Watertown work facility, the DCJ said.
Police said at the time that Bertrand was riding with Burk as his delivery helper at the time of the attack before he took off on foot.
Burk was found by troopers in the UPS truck after Connecticut State Police said in 2020 that they were called to the area of Route 8 north by exit 37 in Watertown for a crash around 10:30 p.m. A bloody folding knife, which police said was confirmed to be Bertrand's, was also found at the scene.
Burk was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Bertrand was later found and arrested inside a Valero Gas Station on Main Street in Plymouth on Dec. 23, 2020, Plymouth police said.
He is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 18 in Waterbury Superior Court.
