TORRINGTON, Conn. — Four people were injured when a car crashed through a Torrington bakery Friday morning.

Torrington police and fire fighters responded to the Rose Vega Bakery on Main Street at 11:45 a.m. Images from the scene show that the car had crashed through the large front window and become fully lodged inside the downtown business. According to the Torrington Fire Department, there was extensive debris and a natural gas leak when crews arrived.

Firefighters say that two people who were inside the bakery were able to get themselves out. One other person inside was pulled out by fire crews, as was the driver of the vehicle. The fire department says multiple people sustained serious injuries.

Several ambulance crews, as well as Lifestar, were dispatched to assist.

Torrington Police say that the intersection of Main Street, Pearl Street, and East Pearl Street is closed during the investigation. It is expected to reopen around 4:30 p.m.

Currently there is no word on the extent of injuries or on the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Fifer of the Torrington Police at 860-489-2000.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
