MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. — Middlefield troopers are asking for help in identifying a suspect who broke into the Middlefield Fire Department and stole equipment.
On Dec. 25, at around 9:40 p.m., a man broke into the fire department on 406 Jackson Hill Road. The suspect was described by police as a white man wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and boots.
The man was seen on surveillance video entering the fire department through the apparatus bay through the side door, walking out of view behind one of the fire trucks, returning to the view of the surveillance video, and leaving the building through the same access door.
After further investigation, it was revealed that two lime green portable Motorola radios with "Middlefield Fire" at the front were taken from the truck the man walked behind.
Firefighters in Middlefield are "extremely saddened" that the equipment was stolen from their firehouse.
"This equipment does not belong to us but belongs to our community and anyone that it could be used to help," Middlefield Volunteer Fire Chief Peter Tyc said in a statement. "Every piece of equipment plays a part in our operations, and while this is a deficit, the public should remain certain that our operational capabilities are not compromised."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Connecticut State Police Trooper Vaughan at 860-399-2100.
