PORTLAND, Conn. — Portland residents have longed to hear it: the project of dewatering Jobs Pond is close to being underway.
The Town of Portland reported the development in a release on Thursday. The town said that in late July, the Board of Selectmen awarded the project to Synder Civil Construction, LLC, which offered the lowest bid.
“Since that time, materials and equipment have been sourced from as far away as California. Construction of the pipeline is scheduled to begin Aug. 22-26 with pumping to begin by Labor Day Weekend,” the town said.
While the project is occurring, the town said that the Air Line Trail parking area off Middle Haddam Road will be closed, beginning on Monday, Aug. 19. The Portland section of the Air Line Trail will be closed starting next Wednesday, Aug. 21.
Additionally, Breezy Cornesr Road will be closed to motorists at the intersection of the Air Line Trail beginning on Aug. 21 also, according to the town.
“The project is estimated to take about a month to complete,” the release said.
