Connecticut experiences 2.3 magnitude earthquake in Moodus

The earthquake was reported in Moodus, a village within East Haddam, at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday.

EAST HADDAM, Conn. — A 2.3 magnitude earthquake was detected in Moodus, Conn. Wednesday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake was reported in Moodus, a village within East Haddam, at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday.

Colchester Fire and Emergency Services said the earthquake was felt in "numerous towns," followed by an "aftershock."

Reports to 911 were received about a large explosion heard by multiple surrounding communities.
