EAST HAMPTON, Conn — East Hampton schools were on lockdown Tuesday afternoon as officers from the Connecticut State Police and the Middletown Police Department responded to a phone call saying there was an "active shooter" at the middle school.
Police say the call came from a family member of the unidentified "shooter." The district responded by locking down the middle school, high school, and elementary schools while police searched the grounds.
Police were then told there was a threat to the high school and began a search there. No shooter was found at either school because the alleged shooter was reportedly in another town at the time. Lockdowns were lifted and students were permitted to leave with parents.
Police say they are working on gathering more information about the alleged suspect but did not provide any additional information.
East Hampton is the latest in a long string of school threats that have plagued Connecticut districts since the start of the school year more than a month ago. No threats so far have been deemed credible. In several cases, students who were found to have made the threats were arrested.
