PORTLAND, Connecticut — Portland police said a town firefighter who also served as a Board of Selectmen was hit and killed by a pickup truck on Wednesday.
Police identified the firefighter as Shaun Manning, 58, of Portland.
At 6:19 p.m., police said they responded to a serious crash on Main Street in the area of the police department.
Investigators learned that Manning had been crossing the street when a pickup truck hit him, police said. He was taken to Middlesex Memorial Hospital Emergency Department where he was pronounced dead.
The truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
Main Street from Waverly Avenue to Freestone Avenue is closed while the crash investigation is underway.
