MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — A New Jersey man was arrested on charges from a street takeover in Middletown on July 13 involving a large group of dirt bikes, the town's police department said Wednesday.
Anthony Miranda, 31, of Port Monmouth, N.J., is facing charges of reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering/resisting arrest, reckless driving, failure to stop for emergency vehicle, obstruction of an emergency vehicle, failure to maintain proper lane, operating unregistered motor vehicle, operating motor vehicle without insurance, operating motorcycle without motorcycle endorsement, failure to have tail lamps and failure to have turn signals.
On July 13 at 5:59 p.m., Middletown officers went to the area of South Main Street at the Middlefield town line after receiving calls about the group of dirt bike riders that were attempting a street takeover, according to police.
Shortly after the calls were made, an officer found a group of street takeover participants in the parking lot of the Citgo Gas Station on South Main Street, police said. The officer arrested one man in the group, identified as Miranda.
According to police, the group was driving recklessly into traffic and blocking marked police cruisers that had their lights and sirens on, prompting the officer to request more police to the scene.
The riders eventually left the area, heading north on South Main Street, police said.
Miranda was held on a $150,000 bond and is expected to appear in Middletown Court on July 26. The 2020 Honda CRF 110cc dirt bike he was riding was seized by police as evidence.
