'Absolutely terrifying' | Middletown home invasion suspects posed as fake FedEx delivery men

The five men are from New York and New Jersey and are each facing nearly 20 criminal charges.

MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut — On Tuesday five men charged with a terrifying home invasion in Middletown appeared in court. In court, it was revealed how they allegedly committed their crimes, by luring their victim to the door by posing as a fake package delivery person.

“It can only be described as absolutely terrifying for these victims,” said the state’s attorney in court.

One by one the suspects took the stand. They are Dietrich Williams, Angel Martinez, Angel Fragoso, Mykey Speights and Jordan McNeill. The five men are from New York and New Jersey and are each facing nearly 20 criminal charges.

“These crimes were extremely serious,” said the state’s attorney.

It happened Saturday morning at the Wilcox Apartments on South Main Street in Middletown. The suspects allegedly posed as fake FedEx delivery drivers.

“The men knocked on the door and held a FedEx package up to the peephole,” described the state’s attorney.

Three women were inside the apartment.

“She tried to get them to leave the package on the porch. They insisted they required a signature,” described the state’s attorney.

But eventually one of the victims opened the door. That’s when prosecutors said the men pushed their way inside. They allegedly zip-tied two of their victims and taped their mouths shut. They allegedly hit a third in the head with a pistol.

“They were intent on stealing from her and indeed did grab over $100,000 worth of items,” said the attorney in court.

Middletown police are currently investigating whether the suspects knew the victims.

“We are looking to tie those ends up. We feel there might be a social media piece to it in regard to the business she conducts that involves deliveries and those types of things,” explained Middletown Police Chief Erik Costa.

After the home invasion, the suspects led police on a chase through Durham, North Branford and North Haven. Eventually, all five suspects were put into handcuffs, including one who was taken down by Middletown Police K-9 Koda. Taking one last bite out of crime.

“That was Coda's last shift after eight years of great work and service to us. It’s a good sendoff for him to show his worth,” said Costa.

The suspects, who ranged in age from 19 to 25, all had previous criminal records in other states. Their bonds ranged from $750,000-$975,000.

Middletown police assure the community that this is an isolated incident.
