MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The building of a long-time diner in Middletown that served patrons for generations has been listed for sale.
A local real estate group listed this week the building on 728 Main Street, which once operated as O'Rourke's Diner. The current asking price for the 1,420-square-foot building is $429,000. There is one bathroom and a basement, which is another 1,420 square feet of space.
The diner, established in 1941 and recently closed its doors, was featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," as well as on food blog "Eat This, Not That!."
A fire ripped through the diner in 2006, according to a report on the listing from The Middletown Press. The community came together and raised money to rebuild O'Rourke's after it was learned the owner didn't have fire insurance.
Berkshire Hathaway, which listed the diner building, is holding an open house on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from noon to 2 p.m. and is taking offers.
This is the second diner in Connecticut to be listed for sale. The Olympia Diner, along the Berlin Turnpike in Newington, is still in business but the owners have found a potential buyer with plans to redevelop the property.
Another diner in Connecticut may be closing its doors for good next year. The Wethersfield Diner announced to customers on Facebook Friday that the establishment will close on or before Jan. 31, 2025. The owner of the diner told FOX61 in May she felt blindsided and betrayed by the landlord and the town for this decision. There are plans for the property to become a mixed-use apartment building.
