Woman killed in Middletown crash identified

Her 3-year-old son appeared to be uninjured in the incident.

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. —

One woman was killed in a crash Monday evening, but a child in the car appeared to be uninjured.

At 7:46 p.m., police were called to a report of a serious motor vehicle collision on South Main Street (Route 17) in the area of Round Hill Road.

Officers found a black sedan had been traveling north on South Main Street and struck the rear of a tow truck traveling north as well.

Officers found 23-year-old Lindsey Pelletier of New Britain trapped in the driver’s seat and her 3-year-old son in the rear of the sedan.

The child had no obvious injuries but the Pelletier was unresponsive. Emergency crews removed the driver from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures but she died from her injuries on scene.

The child was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford for evaluation. The tow truck operator was not injured during the collision.

Police said witnesses told them that Pelletier was traveling north on South Main Street at a high rate of speed before passing a vehicle in front of her using the southbound lane. Pelletier moved back into the northbound lane but it appears she was unable to slow her vehicle quickly enough to avoid striking the rear of the tow truck which was traveling north ahead her.

The crash is being investigated by the Middletown Police Department’s Traffic Division. Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to contact Ofc J. Zadjura at 860-638-4063.
