Shots fired at delivery driver after attempted carjacking in Portland: Police

The delivery driver threw the pizza at the suspects while they attempted to flee in the vehicle, police said.

PORTLAND, Conn. — A delivery driver was shot at by two people who tried to carjack him overnight, Portland police said.

According to officials, Domino's Pizza was called for a delivery on Waverly Avenue. Around 1 a.m., the driver got to the address and got out of his car.

Police said two men wearing masks and dark clothing approached the delivery driver. One of the suspects jumped into the driver's seat as the other ran around the car and climbed into the passenger seat.

Police said the delivery driver began yelling after the suspects as they tried to drive away, but the car got stuck on the icy road.

The delivery driver then reportedly threw the pizza at the suspects, and they left the vehicle before running down the road and into a waiting vehicle. Police said the second vehicle was reported stolen out of Hamden.

As the suspects drove from the scene, the delivery driver tried to follow them.

As the vehicle drove onto Fairview Street, one of the suspects reportedly reached out of the window and fired at least two shots in the direction of the pursuing delivery driver.

Police said the delivery driver slowed down and watched as the suspects drove over the Arrigoni Bridge and into Middletown

The Middletown Police Department then tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspects kept driving down into New Haven.

Officials said that once in New Haven, the two suspects, along with two others inside the vehicle, got out and ran from the area.

According to police, a K9 track was tried, but they did not find the suspects. However, during the search, they did find a 16-year-old who was reported missing out of Meriden. Police said the teen was reunited with his mother.
