ANSONIA, Conn. — Two people are being charged in connection with the murder of an Ansonia resident in July, police said.
According to officials, 18-year-old Jada Artis was arrested last Friday and charged for her involvement in the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Abdul-Jalil Humphrey.
The shooting happened on July 14 on Hodge Avenue. When police got to the scene, they found Humphrey in a driveway, shot multiple times. Humphrey was rushed to Griffin Hospital where he later died.
Police reported at the time that Humphrey's 2018 Chevrolet Malibu Premier was stolen just before the shooting and that one other person saw it driving away from the scene.
Another person, 20-year-old Hartford resident Sahvon Valentine, was the one identified as the one who shot Humphrey, according to officials. He is currently in prison on unrelated times and Ansonia police expect to charge him in the "near future."
Artis' arrest was the result of a multi-agency investigation into the fatal shooting. Ansonia investigators were helped by Derby, Shelton and Middletown police departments, as well as the Connecticut State Police - Central District Major Crime team and the state's forensic laboratory.
Artis was charged with murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, and hindering a prosecution. Her bail is set at $2 million and was arraigned in court Wednesday.
