NEW HAVEN, Conn. — On Wednesday, a jury in New Haven Superior Court found a Branford man guilty of harassing three victims over the phone and through text messages between May 2021 and May 2022.
Samuel Foley, 26, was convicted of eight counts of second-degree threatening with a firearm, five counts of second-degree harassment via written communication, and eight counts of second-degree harassment by phone, according to the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.
During the span of a year, Foley sent hundreds of threatening text messages to the victims, prosecutors said.
The text messages consisted of “threats of murder, rape, sexual assault with guns and knives, child abduction, violent and sexually explicit pornographic images, the murder of the victims’ children, and shootings at the victims’ children’s schools,” according to the DCJ.
Evidence introduced at the trial revealed that Foley called each victim hundreds of times and masked his phone number using Voice Over Internet Protocol spoofing applications.
Prosecutors note that Foley was arrested by warrant along the Mexico/California border by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on behalf of the State of Connecticut and extradited back to Connecticut.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 7 in New Haven Superior Court, according to the DCJ.
