BRANFORD, Conn. — Branford firefighters are reminding citizens to lock up their cars after two of their own are dealing with the aftermath of "brazen" car break-ins over the weekend.
Two personal vehicles and a town vehicle were broken into at the Branford Fire Department on Sunday, according to firefighters. The two personal vehicles belong to firefighters and paramedics who were on shift during the time the car thefts happened, officials said.
Nothing of value was stolen, but the vehicles were left with broken windows and scratched-up paint, according to Branford Fire Chief Tom Mahoney.
Mahoney called the incident "fearless and brazen. Very sad."
The fire department is in a well-lit and highly trafficked area, firefighters said.
"Please remain vigilant, do not leave valuables in your vehicles, and again, lock your vehicles up!" the Branford Professional Firefighters Local 2533 said in a Facebook post about the break-ins.
