EAST HAVEN, Conn. — An East Haven Uber driver was assaulted Wednesday at a gas station according to police.
According to police, at 1:40 a.m. they responded to a complaint at Forbes Fuel, 81 West Frontage Road for a stolen vehicle complaint which was later determined to also be an assault/purse snatching.
Police said they spoke to the victim who was an Uber driver en route to pick up a customer. She started pumping gas when she saw a black Nissan Rogue that was later found to be a stolen vehicle pull into the gas station and park alongside her vehicle. Police said that three Black men wearing dark clothing and ski masks got out of the SUV and tried to take her purse.
One of the men began striking the victim in the face to get the purse from her. Once the purse was freed, the suspects stole her vehicle. Both vehicles then took off westbound on Frontage Road into New Haven.
Shortly after, officers recovered the Rogue just over the line in New Haven.
The victim’s vehicle was located abandoned in West Haven on Thursday. East Haven Police Detectives have the vehicle and are currently processing it for evidence. Detectives are also working in close partnership with the New Haven Police Department which also had a similar incident occur in their city just prior to the East Haven incident.
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects is asked to contact the East Haven Police Department at 203-468-3820.
