EAST HAVEN, Conn. — A shelter in place order in East Haven was lifted Saturday morning, according to the town’s police department.
The shelter in place order was put into effect Friday night around 11:35 p.m. after multiple shots were reportedly fired from a house in the 20 block of Charnes Drive, police said.
Responding officers set a perimeter up around 27 Charnes Drive, as the suspect, who police identified as 42-year-old Michael Farino, allegedly fired several series of gunshots from behind the residence.
Police said the shelter in place order was issued to area residents, and the South-Central Regional SWAT Team was activated.
“After a brief standoff, telephone contact was made with Farino by Sgt. Molly Perry, who persuaded him to exit his residence slowly with his hands up,” the release from East Haven police said. “Farino was taken into custody without further incident and was transported to the East Haven Police Department for processing.”
According to police, Officer Kevin McGuire and his recently certified K-9 partner Gunner found the gun used in the incident hidden within the residence.
Police said Farino is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, second-degree breach of peace and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.
As of late Saturday morning, Farino was being held on a $250,000 bond and was set to appear in court on Monday in New Haven.
No injuries were reported during the incident, police said.
