WASHINGTON — Former Derby Alderman and mayoral candidate Gino DiGiovanni Jr. has entered a guilty plea for his involvement in the January 6 insurrection.
DiGiovanni pleaded guilty Friday to one count of Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds. The crime carries a maximum sentence of one year of imprisonment and a fine of $100,000. The court accepted the guilty plea.
Last month, DiGiovanni's attorney, Martin Minnella, confirmed they signed a plea agreement and that DiGiovanni planed to plead guilty to the lowest charge, which is entering/remaining on restricted grounds. He said that this was an "unfortunate situation" and that it was the "best resolution" for all involved to plead guilty to the charge.

That charge states that DiGiovanni knowingly entered and remained inside the U.S. Capitol building and grounds which are considered restricted.
DiGiovanni will appear be sentenced on April 15, 2024.
DiGiovanni and his legal team will appear before a federal judge in their next hearing and will request that it go back to the Magistrate.
