HAMDEN, Conn. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on Dixwell Avenue on Wednesday evening, according to police in Hamden.
Police were called to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Mather Street just before 10 p.m. for a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.
Police said arriving officers found a man, who was hit and was lying in the roadway. A driver passing by stopped to help police and fire crews attempt to save the victim's life until he was taken to an area hospital. The victim, who has not been identified at this time, later died at the hospital.
The driver who hit the victim stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
The area was closed as police investigated the crash, and police said the area has since reopened to traffic.
