NAUGATUCK, Conn. — A man who was shot by Naugatuck police officers after advancing on them with a knife was arrested Wednesday, according to police.
Kyle O'Creene, 24, was taken into custody on May 7 after being discharged from the hospital and is facing charges of attempted assault on a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon, interfering with an officer and reckless endangerment in the first degree, police said.
According to info from police and a report from the Inspector General's office, officers were called to Baummer's Pond Park on April 25 after receiving a 911 call that a man, later identified as O'Creene, was holding a knife and "acting erratically."
The report said that officers arrived and found O'Creene near a picnic table where he began advancing towards them with the knife and ignored commands to put it down. Police said they eventually used their taser in an attempt to subdue him, but they said it was unsuccessful.
According to police, Officer Crystal Hudson and Officer Joseph Palhete then fired their guns and hit O'Creene. He was "immediately" provided medical treatment for his injuries from officers at the scene and taken to the hospital, police said.
The Office of the Inspector General is leading the investigation into the shooting.
